Abstract Although Indian immigrants arrived in Africa as early as the 15t century BC, the political participation of the Indian diaspora in Africa only began during the colonial period. Between the mid-19t century and the mid-20tcentury,the Indian diaspora in Africa first acted as "intermediaries" or served as political vassals of British colonialism. From the second half of the 20t century,African countries became independent and the pan-Africanism rose. Under the influence of xenophobia, the Indian diaspora gradually became “marginalized” in African political society and were excluded from the mainstream politics. Since the beginning of the 215t century, under the influence of a series of internal and external factors, the Indian diaspora have returned to Africa as "builders",showingactive and diversified characteristics in political participation. At present, in terms of the development trend of political participation of the Indian diaspora, their influence in Africa will be further strengthened.
